At an Evalution
Screening introduction
What do I need to do to be able to attend a Caring Canines Evaluation?
You will need to send the following forms to be considered for an Evaluation.
1.Completed Member Application Form – one to be filled out by each person who will be visiting.
2. Completed Annual Health Form – this must be filled out by your veterinarian. A fecal sample must be done for this first Health Form. Each year there after, please check with your own veterinarian to see if your vet thinks this is necessary.
What dogs are allowed to apply ?
All dogs must be a minimum of one year old, have a current license and be fit to visit. There are some bully and wolf breeds we are not allowed to take into consideration, as they are prohibited through our insurance policy. If in doubt about your dog -please check with us in advance.
When is the Next Evaluation?
You will be contacted as soon as we have received all your paperwork and verified that you are eligible for an Evaluation. As soon we have the necessary amount of applicants to hold an Evaluation, we will contact you to confirm a time slot that you can attend. Please be on time for your scheduled slot. It takes approximately 40 minutes to complete.
How much does it cost?
The annual membership fee is $20.00 payable at the Evaluation. This helps with our Societies insurance coverage, so that when you are in any facilities, on the facility grounds, or at any sanctioned Caring Canine events, it covers both you and your dog, should anything happen.
What happens after I pass the Evaluation?
You will be required to attend a training seminar that will take a couple of hours. After you have completed the seminar you will be able to visit at a medical facility or residential care home of your choice. The first time you visit, you will accompany an experienced Caring Canine volunteer and their dog. This volunteer will be familiar with the facility and be able to assist you with the orientation and any questions you may have.
For your second visit, an experienced volunteer will accompany you and your dog. If the experienced volunteer believes you are ready to visit on your own you after the second visit, you will be scheduled for regular visits. Each facility you visit, may require additional paperwork and a criminal history check.
